Innovation is a word which is constantly discussed in meeting rooms (Zoom offices) in every business, including ours. What is often missing is the conversation that should follow.

How do we give our business the freedom to explore opportunities for true and beneficial innovation?

These are our thoughts making innovation integral and successful.

Innovation is a pillar – be an innovative company, all encompassing. With everything you do, include it in the questions you ask at every point, is this of value to our guests? Is this financially rewarding? Is this beneficial to our community and people? Is this innovative?

Cross pollinate your innovation initiatives to maximise your opportunities to improve. No Spa is an island, metaphorically of course. Where can our magical fingers of innovation spread? F&B, Housekeeping, local boutiques, local personalities, online support, remote learning, credentials, and accreditations. Building bridges and forming relationships expand the opportunities for creative pursuits exponentially.

Have bold aspirations. Innovation does require a few ingredients and one of these is totally ridiculous ideas. Brainstorming is just that, storming through your brain with reckless abandon, hoping you don’t run into a few embarrassing memories and grabbing onto all of the wonderful ideas you have. Then work back from there, right back, back to where there is a possibility of writing an SOP about it.

Embrace the bigger conversation. Inspiration is everywhere, the creation of innovative ideas is not formulaic. The more open we are to all ideas; all voices the more opportunity we have to gain a beneficial understanding of what’s next for our business.
